Moreno Bill Imposes Daily Tax on Members of Congress During Government Shutdowns
WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) introduced the Stop Holding Up Tax-Payers, Deny Wages on Washington’s Negligence (SHUTDOWN) Act to penalize members of Congress with a daily tax during a government shutdown. “Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries want to get paid for shutting the government down,” said Senator Moreno. “That’s ridiculous. If Congress can’t do the bare minimum, we don’t deserve a paycheck.” Unlike federal employees, members of Congress are guaranteed to get paid during a government shutdown. However, Senator Moreno’s SHUTDOWN Act imposes a daily tax on lawmakers which would remain each day that members of Congress are in session and the shutdown continues.
Moreno, Barrasso Ask Bessent to Close IRS Loophole Allowing Continued EV Tax Credits
WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) and Senator John Barrasso, M.D. (R-Wyoming) sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent asking him to close an IRS loophole that is allowing automobile companies to continue taking advantage of EV tax credits, despite the $7,500 credit ending on Tuesday. “It has come to our attention that certain car companies are gaming this guidance by instructing their captive financial entities to enter into written binding agreements with dealers for electric vehicles, paying a nominal downpayment, to secure the credits on vehicles that may not be leased to the end user for months,” the Senators wrote. “Given this concerning information, we write
Moreno Demands Answers on Google’s Plan to Hike Costs for Millions of Viewers
WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) penned a letter to Google’s Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai demanding answers on Google’s plan to increase prices for millions of Hispanic viewers who rely on channels such as Univision and Telemundo on YouTube TV. “Hasn’t your company learned by now that censoring the content that subscribers have access to is potentially illegal, a terrible business practice, and has called into question your integrity and trustworthiness as an information dissemination platform that over 10 million households utilize,” wrote Senator Moreno. “Such conduct also risks a need for antitrust scrutiny, as it may reflect an abuse of market power to restrict consumer choice.” Read the letter HERE or below.
