WASHINGTON –Today, Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) sent a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel calling for a full investigation into potential ties between international terrorist organizations, such as ISIS or Hamas, and Mohamed Soliman, an Egyptian national who perpetrated yesterday’s terrorist attack in Boulder, Colo. after entering the country illegally.
“Jewish Americans are under attack. For years, leftist agitators and Islamic radicals have called to ‘globalize the Intifada.’ We are now seeing the horrifying reality of that phase played out on American streets,” wrote Senator Moreno. “If Jews aren’t being murdered in cold blood in our nation’s capital, they are quite literally being burned alive by an illegal alien. This is 2025, and yet, the blood-thirsty antisemitic attacks that continue to occur in the wake of October 7, 2023 would make you believe that it is 1939.

Dear Director Patel,
Jewish Americans are under attack. For years, leftist agitators and Islamic radicals have called to “globalize the Intifada.” We are now seeing the horrifying reality of that phrase played out on American streets. If Jews aren’t being murdered in cold blood in our nation’s capital, they are quite literally being burned alive by an illegal alien. This is 2025, and yet, the blood-thirsty antisemitic attacks that continue to occur in the wake of October 7, 2023 would make one believe that it is 1939.
As you know, on June 1, 2025, Mohamed Soliman, an illegal alien from Egypt, carried out a terrorist attack, using a “makeshift flamethrower” and Molotov cocktails to burn elderly citizens participating in a peaceful gathering where they were calling for the release of the hostages still held in Gaza by Hamas. It should surprise no one to learn that this terrorist yelled “free Palestine” during the attack and stated that he committed the attack to “avenge [his] people.” I want to thank you and your team at the Federal Bureau of Investigation for your swift action to investigate this matter and for rightly calling it what it is: an act of terrorism.
As a member of the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs and the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, it is my responsibility to investigate and tell the American people the truth about how this illegal alien entered the country under the Biden-Harris Administration and was permitted to not only stay in the country but also commit acts of terror on Jewish Americans
Please respond to my office no later than sixty days from receipt of this letter with answers to the following questions and requested information:
- A full public accounting of when and how this terrorist entered and remained in the country;
- Who was harboring him inside the United States;
- Who paid for his travel;
- What, if any links, he has to terrorist organizations such as ISIS or Hamas;
- What vetting went into allowing this individual to enter the country;
- What vetting went into allowing this individual to obtain a work authorization; and
- The basis for any asylum claims that he may have filed.
